Our History

How we started

ACKCON was established to address a recurring challenge: corporate art collections and art initiatives often need more operational attention than a wider project is set up to provide. Artwork may be acquired, moved, documented, or installed across different teams and timelines, while responsibility for the whole remains unclear.

The firm brings together large-scale construction leadership and corporate collection experience through a generational collaboration. This complementary expertise informs a practice that connects contemporary art with the requirements of the organization that holds it, and the practical work needed to care for and implement it over time.

Across corporate programs, private collections, and development projects, ACKCON brings clarity to scope and responsibilities, aligning budgets, schedules, procurement, and documentation with long-term stewardship.

Leadership

Philip Kwok

Philip brings over three decades of construction leadership across Vancouver, Toronto, and Hong Kong, with experience overseeing residential and commercial projects exceeding $250M in contract value. His career spans complex developments requiring alignment among financial objectives, technical demands, and multidisciplinary teams.

His perspective informs ACKCON’s approach to the built environment, grounding collection and cultural initiatives in the decisions that shape major projects. Supported by formal training in Quality Management and Occupational Health and Safety, his experience brings a focus on risk, budget discipline, and delivery accountability to the practice’s combined art and construction outlook.

Alex Kwok

Alex brings experience managing corporate art portfolios valued at over $50M, connecting curatorial vision with the organizational structures needed to sustain collections across locations and over time. His work spans enterprise collection programs and cultural initiatives within complex institutional environments.

At ACKCON, he leads client engagements that bring collection priorities into alignment with executive objectives, organizational requirements, and the realities of workplace and capital projects. His approach combines contemporary art judgment with operational discipline, helping clients translate cultural ambitions into coherent programs with clear direction, accountability, and continuity.
